Medway Mayor chooses Holding On Letting Go as his charity of the year

We’ve been chosen as the Mayor of Medway’s charity of the year.

We will be the sole charity supported my new mayor, Cllr Habib Tejan through various fundraising events held during his year in office.

The announcement was made at the annual council meeting on Tuesday 21st May at the St George’s Centre, Pembroke Road, Chatham.

Our CEO Caroline Ford, said: “It’s an exciting time for us and will give our charity some fantastic opportunities to reach people who need our help.
“Often, once families do find us they say they’d wished they’d known about us before, or that someone else told them about us.
“We aim to be known throughout Kent so that if bereavement does happen to a child, we are there almost immediately to support them and their families through the weeks and months ahead.
“The support of the Mayor will not only help us to raise money to provide our services but will also help us to reach more people who need us.”

The mayor is hoping to raise more than £14,500 for us, which will be presented in July 2020. Caroline added: “Knowing this donation is coming, means we can plan ahead for next year. But it doesn’t mean we don’t need any other fundraising – we are funded solely through voluntary donations and grants and more is needed to be able to offer the range of services across the county needed for bereaved families.
“We’re the only charity to offer help across the whole of Kent and we never turn anyone away.”

Cllr Tejan first found out about HOLG in December last year when he attended our annual theatre show at Medway Little Theatre, deputising for the mayor.
