A year of impact: Supporting children & families through bereavement

Over the past 12 months, we have focused on reaching even more children, young people and their families in need of support through grief – and we’re incredibly proud of the results.

From April 2024-March 2025, through our services which include our signature bereavement support weekends, one-to-one support, bereavement cafés, work with schools, and external training, we have:

  • Received 398 preliminary referrals who were supported or signposted to appropriate alternative services
  • Supported 376 families across Kent and Medway
  • Worked with 25 new schools offering support to children and young people
  • Invited 171 children and 85 parent/carers to our bereavement weekends
  • Run 10 bespoke external bereavement training events for health, social services fostering teams and education settings
  • Trained 53 volunteers in coping with traumatic death, baby loss, stillbirth or neonatal death
  • Welcomed 128 children and families to our summer family fun day and New Year Party

Volunteers & Corporate sponsors
None of this would be possible without the wonderful people and organisations who give their time and support to help us carry out our work, raise awareness and funds. In fact, our volunteers gave 2,526 hours of their time over the past year, equating to an amazing £30,843 in savings on wages.

We’ve also been delighted to have received ongoing support from a number of new corporate sponsors including KIMS Hospital, Ascot, Girlings Solicitors, Pentland Homes, Memoria Faversham Mid Kent Memorial Park & Crematorium as well as our long-time supporter, Downton & Ali Associates. We also receive regular donations of items for creative activities at our bereavement weekends via our Amazon shopping list.

And, of course, there are many other amazing individuals who have supported us—by making a donation, buying a raffle ticket, attending an event, organising their own event, or going the extra mile with sponsored running, cycling, or swimming.

Help us achieve even more
We’re hugely grateful to everyone who has contributed to our work whether in hours, pounds, physical challenges or simply spreading the word about what we do.

We know there are more families we need to reach, and we need your help! Whether you have time to spare, want to push yourself in a sponsored event, or are a business looking to give something back, check out these links to find out what you can do:

Our CEO, Jules Tobin, adds, “It’s fantastic to see our year in numbers and the impact HOLG has had. Every statistic represents someone experiencing one of the most difficult times of their lives. Thanks to the communal effort of our fundraisers, corporate partners, and volunteers, we’ve been there to guide and support these children and families as they navigate their grief.

“But we know there is always more we can do. I hope that more people are inspired to do their bit in whatever way they can to help us ensure no child has to struggle through bereavement alone.”
