12 half marathons in 12 months!

A Maidstone man whose school friend was tragically murdered almost thirty years ago is running 12 half marathons in 12 months in her memory.

David McKnight will be completing the challenge through a mixture of organised events and his own running routes. A keen runner and member of Maidstone Harriers, David has completed six half marathons and two full marathons in the past so is well prepared for the training ahead. Having kicked off with the Battersea Half Marathon in early January, followed by another in Headcorn, then Paddock Wood, he is now looking ahead to his next event, the Kent Spring Half Marathon on 16th April before getting ready for the Saxon Shore Half Marathon in May.

David decided to take this opportunity to raise funds for HOLG after we supported the siblings of his friend, Cara Hepworth, following her death in 1994. He is a regular supporter of HOLG, having raised funds before as part of an Oldborough Manor School reunion.

Hoping to raise £1,000, David is almost halfway towards his target already and is keen to drum up more support, as he comments:

“HOLG does wonderful work helping bereaved children and was a great support to Cara’s  family when she died.

I’ve done a lot of running in the past but this is an exciting challenge for me! I hope that by taking it on, I can keep Cara’s memory alive, as well as raise money for HOLG so that other families can turn to them if they are in need.”
